Contemporary Israel

Theodore Sasson

NYU Press

The perception that American Jews are distancing themselves from Israel is, in part, a result of the fact that engagement tends to grow during the life cycle; younger Jews are, therefore, likely to grow closer to Israel as they age. Moreover, many Jews now support organizations that send funds directly to Israel rather than donating through centralized federations. While Israeli policies towards the Palestinians have become contentious in the American Jewish community, they have also generated intense engagement, a process that began in the aftermath of the Oslo Accords.
