Black Radical Tragic Propositions
By way of propositional logic, I present ten theses on the Black Radical Tragic that both clarify what I mean by the term and chart ten points for further study and thinking. These propositions bring Hegel’s concept of “the actual” into play with key issues of Black radicalism around questions of anti-slavery historiography, the archive, repetition, and abstract thinking. I discuss these issues by way of aphoristic mediations on the Simone de Beauvoir on Frantz Fanon, Derek Walcott on Christophe’s Citadel, the music of Swans, Charles Mingus, Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, the slavery historiography of Eugene Genovese and Sybille Fischer, W.E.B. DuBois and Joseph Stalin’s historical dialectic, and Hegel on the problem of Abstract thought.
