The Forverts

This chapter denounces the violence against Jews in Palestine, following an incident regarding the use of the Western Wall. The conflict had begun when the Arabs contested the Jewish use of the Wall. The dispute was brought before the British government in Palestine, who sided in favor of the Arabs. In response, the Jews organized a peaceful demonstration at the Wall, where they were later attacked by Arab pogromists. The chapter notes that the attack hadn't come from nothing, however, pointing out that Arab actions had been incited partly by religious fanatics and partly by political provocateurs—most notably the British government itself, who had never done anything to reconcile the interests of the Jews with the Arabs.
