This chapter examines the political visions that motivated diverse constituents of radical social movements in occupied Okinawa to pursue the promise of transpacific strivings. In particular, it considers how the discourse of race helped make the culture of liberation productive for the articulation of a new kind of revolution, politics, and collectivity. It also discusses the dynamic of the freedom struggle in relation to the politics of Okinawa reversion, and how the vision of black and white GIs' antiracism and anti-imperialism overlapped with Okinawan and white American peace activists' struggles against the occupation authority and aggressive militarism. This convergence of multiracial organizing activity, the chapter argues, gave rise to a movement culture capable of articulating the radical possibility of creative coalition building.
