Abstract
This concluding chapter states how the book encapsulates the legislative initiatives that can move working families forward. For a long time, the needs of struggling working families have been ignored, and have led many to conclude that government policies do not serve their interests. Idealism has clouded liberal thinking, leading them to ignore the potential ineffectiveness and unintended consequences of the policies they recommend. While Third Way policy recommendations will not solve all the problems working families face, they can be part of the solution. The most liberal wing of the Democratic Party should be chastened by its defeat to accept the centrist policies that can be legislated. This will, however, depend on the leadership of President Obama, who should learn from the Clinton experience.
